York Ocean Cottage Addition Renovation Finds Its Feet

Welcome to the York Ocean Cottage addition/renovation which is quickly finding its feet. In this blog, I want to introduce you to the York Cottage from the back end first. This project has two primary additions – the back and the new second floor over the existing first floor. The back addition will incorporate the Kitchen and Dining Room with an open concept to the existing Living Room.

The kitchen has been an interesting design challenge with a long exterior wall of the functional cooktop, refrigerator, pantry, ovens and storage space. The island incorporates the sink, dishwasher, microwave drawer and freezer drawers as well as inviting seating for six.

The Dining area is just off the Kitchen complete with a shuffleboard table converted for both serving and beer pong. Just off the staircase to the 2nd floor Master Suite, it will become a nice, flexible space to accommodate a large table.

There will be a back deck for those days that facing the water offers more wind and cold than desired. Complete with a grille, this space will connect the back to the front decks via a pathway.

This is an amazing addition/renovation and has become a favorite project of mine. Defining space is always challenging but the homeowners have been amazing in making quick and efficient decisions in this process. While the focus here is on the back facing the woods, the open concept allows full ocean views out the front.
