Throwback Thursday’s: Subway Tile

Subway Tiles are back in style but with a twist. Available in multiple sizes and colors as well as textures, it is a fun way to create a backsplash or entire wall that has texture and dimension.

Historically, subway tiles literally were first designed for the subway walls of New York City in 1901 -1907 by  Heins & LaFarge as part of the Arts and Crafts movement. They new these tiles would be sturdy and easy to clean. Now, I’m not sure how regularly  the subways of NYC are cleaned, but it’s good to know that early designers had pride in their designs and value in the space.

Porcelanosa USA has a wonderful collection of tiles with a modern twist. Join us on Friday, June 6 for a “Lunch & Learn” from 12pm – 2pm.
