Colors of 2020

Are you in the market to do some painting at your home?

It might help to have a tried and true list of colors to check out that might be a good fit for you.

Philosophically, I think of paint like hair – it’s easy enough to change if you don’t like it. Speaking from the point of view of trying to own my curls and learn how to tame them, I completely understand that it’s not easy to change paint but it’s also not as big of a commitment / investment as a tattoo or installing tile. So, feel free to be brave and select a color that makes your soul relaxed and your heart sing.

Neutrals are still highly recommended as well as a slight introduction of color. One important note: make sure that if I say BM (Benjamin Moore) to purchase from a certified BM dealer. SW (Sherwin Williams) can certainly try to color match but make sure it is a true match before letting your painter go ahead and paint the room only to find that it’s not a true match. For example, BM Simply White is mixing yellow with Sherwin Williams right now because their formula is wrong.

TRIED + TRUE COLORS:

  • BM – Simply White, Snow White, Dove White, Super White, China White
  • BM – Silken Pine (light sage green)
  • BM – Tapestry Beige
  • BM – Edgecomb Grey & Classic Grey
  • BM – Hale Navy & Newburyport Blue (deep blues)
  • BM – Raccoon Fur & Sleeping Beauty (black)
  • C2 – Pavement
  • C2 – Architectural White
  • Farrow & Ball – Strong White

Every year Benjamin Moore releases “Color of the Year” and this year… First Light 2101-70, Crystaline AF-485 and Windmill Wings 2067-60 which to be honest, are not my favorite. And that’s okay, thinking for yourself instead of what is trending.

Be aware of color intensity, while Black is bold it doesn’t assault the eye as much as Kelly Green or Bright Yellow. There is a ton of information online about colors from the websites of manufacturers to Pinterest. Most of all have fun! After all, you can always paint over it just like you can always dye your hair from pink to brown.
