Spring Cleaning: Summer Dishes Set-Up

Who’s ready to entertain outdoors? I certainly am!!! Outside space is an extension to our interiors and expands our square footage dramatically; why not make this your primary space to entertain as long as you can? You just don’t want broken dishes and glasses in your outdoor space.

In order to make this successful and sustainable for you and your family, I suggest investing in some really nice melamine summer dishes that you love. I’ll admit, I really needed new dishes (Yes, when your 24-year-old son comments that you need new dishes, you have probably put that purchase off too long.) So, I took the opportunity to do two key things:

  1. Throw away (and donate) my old dishes that were cracked, broken, mis-matched and stained.
  2. Clean all the shelves in my kitchen. Once all the old dishes were gone and I packed away all the glasses, it was fast and easy to clean the shelves.

I spent a good amount of time looking for melamine dishes online and landed on my friend Amazon. I always have white / off-white dinnerware inside, so I wanted to add some color for the outdoors. I’m also planning on using a teal tablecloth outdoors to set the dishes against to create a fun and different experience.

Here are the dishes that I purchased:

Round, 9” Salad Plate

Round, 11” Dinner Plate

Square, 4.25” White Appetizer Plate

Rectangular Platter, 13”

Rectangular Platter, 19”

Cereal Bowl, 6”

Mini Bowl, 4”

Classic 16-ounce Water Tumbler

Summer entertaining should be low-maintenance, sustainable and fun. These dishes will add an ease to hosting so that you can relax and enjoy your guests.

Please note, Melamine is a thick plastic. Simple plastic dishes are considered disposable and not what you are looking for. Melamine will last you years to come.
