Designing from the Inside Out

Where to begin in the design process? Designing from the inside out is a common concept among designers. In New England, we spend a LOT of time inside! Therefore, when I design I start designing from the view of the kitchen sink. Literally! The kitchen sink is an integral part of home life as it relates to the interiors, the architecture, and the landscape. Designing from the inside out is the best way to start the process, then move to the outside.

The outside is the essence of structure. It contains rooflines, walls, windows, siding, trim work and foundation but it also has entry stairs that blend the outside landscape walkways and gardens to the inside. Making sure that the home is balanced between the inside out is very important for flow and continuity. I love designing from the inside out, as I imagine you moving around the home in daily life. When it comes to creating the roofline, my goal is always to create a design that is appealing, functional and defines the style of home you want to live in.

A home is private. It is a place for respite, inspiration, peace, entertaining, relaxation and it is also a true reflection of you. It is my job to help this come forward so that you can feel the true comfort of your own home. I would love to hear from you as you dream of your new home or renovation and help you make your vision a reality.
